Former leader of the Revolutionary Council (RC) in the North West, Themba Gwabeni, has challenged former premier, Supra Mahumapelo, to proceed with his intended legal recourse against him.

This after eNCA on Wednesday 25 September 2019 reported that Mahumapelo was set to open a criminal case against Gwabeni and Saliva Molapisi for what he calls an 'offer of intent' from the two when he was premier. Gwabeni says he won’t dignify Mahumapelo’s claims or legal course against him with a response. He adds that the former premier must deal with his demons and face the music. Gwabeni adds that he and other leaders are hard at work in the province with the hopes of turning around what he calls ‘a mess’ Mahumapelo created.

Gwabeni and council members were amongst many who were advocating for the removal of Mahumapelo from his post as the premier. He also told OFM News that the call for Mahumapelo to vacate office or to be fired was not personal as he still considers him a brother after knowing him for many years.

The call by the RC was followed by a wave of protests that led to the axing of Mahumapelo. Gwabeni said they are still waiting for the wheels of justice to prevail over corruption and fraud charges against the former Premier. He said since opening cases against Mahumapelo a while ago, no justice has been delivered and he is yet to answer to allegations of the alleged wrongdoings. Meanwhile, on Monday Mahumapelo said the recent allegations that he put out a hit on deceased NW businessman Wandile Bozwana, are some of the attempts to silence his vocal activism in ANC politics. He said such attempts will never succeed. His comments follow an article in the Sunday World claiming that an affidavit filed with Gauteng’s Provincial Investigations Unit, which investigated the death of Bozwana, implicated Mahumapelo in the murder of Bozwana. Bozwana died at the Unitas Hospital after he and his business partner Mpho Baloyi were shot while travelling in a Renault Clio in Pretoria in October 2015.
