Stuck ambulance quickly attended to - FS Health | News Article

The Health Department in the Free State says an incident where an ambulance was stuck in the mud with a pregnant woman inside was an unexpected incident but the matter was quickly attended to.

Residents in that area raised their concerns about what they call bad road infrastructure, especially during heavy rain which leads to localised flooding.

The department’s spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says the ambulance responded in time to a distress call by a pregnant woman and on arrival at the scene the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel treated and stabilised the patient who went into labour.

He says on the way to the hospital, the ambulance crew got stuck in the mud with the patient. He says residents quickly managed to help the crew to push the ambulance out of the mud and they eventually transported her to a local hospital.

He adds that the patient and her unborn baby were stable and were not negatively affected by this temporary inconvenience.

Mvambi says the efficient provision of emergency medical services is dependent on a number of factors such as good public infrastructure, amongst others. The Mangaung Metro Municipality is yet to respond.

"I am pleased that our pregnant mother and her baby were not negatively affected by this temporary inconvenience which was beyond the control of our EMS personnel," says Tsiu.
