A dynamic repertoire blends classical masterpieces with contemporary innovation.

The CEO of the Free State Symphony Orchestra, Daniel Boico, joins Yolanda Maartens in the OFM Art Beat as he launches their 2025 programme.

An exciting year lies ahead for the FSSO as they have a few well-known favourites lined up; an international debut and an African debut with conductors and musicians who work around the globe, and will now be on the stage in Central South Africa. 

The Free State Symphony Orchestra (FSSO) proudly unveils its exhilarating 2025 concert season, featuring a stellar lineup of internationally acclaimed conductors, virtuosic soloists, and a dynamic repertoire that blends classical masterpieces with contemporary innovation.

Audiences can anticipate an unforgettable journey through musical history, beginning on 8 March with conductor Daniel Boico and bayan accordionist Stas Venglevski performing works by Chabrier, Shor, Milhaud, and Venglevski himself. 

On 5 April, the spotlight turns to flutist-conductor Stathis Karapanos, who will present Winkler’s Flute Concerto No. 2’s world premiere alongside beloved pieces by Verdi, Theodorakis, and Schubert. 

The season continues with pianist Ilya Friedberg joining conductor Avlana Eisenberg on 24 May for an evening featuring Schumann’s Piano Concerto and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2. The annual Youth Concerto Festival on 9 August promises to showcase rising musical talent.
