Thulas Nxesi takes political responsibility for Nkandla─── 12:01 Fri, 20 Dec 2013
Johannesburg - Public Works Minister Thulas Nxesi has claimed full political responsibility for the Nkandla report, saying he will deal with anyone implicated in corruption regarding the upgrades at President Jacob Zuma's private residence.
The SABC reports that Nxesi said he will take action against everyone that is implicated in the final Nkandla report.
He said the Special Investigating Unit will investigate allegations that there was overpricing from the side of the service providers.
Auditor General Kimi Makwetu will also investigate if there were any violations in the supply chain management.
Nxesi was reacting to opposition parties that have rejected the inter-ministerial task team's report into the security upgrades.
Yesterday, the security cluster's ministers released the report, which cleared Zuma of any wrongdoing and found that he had not requested the upgrades.
The report further found that no public funds were used for upgrades which were not security related.
Meanwhile Zuma has instructed the SIU to probe the appointment of contractors involved in the upgrades. It will also investigate how goods were procured. The report confirmed that just over R206-million had been spent on the upgrade up to December last year.
