Griekwastad teen's former lawyer not paid: report─── 08:40 Mon, 19 Jan 2015
Kimberley - The former lawyer for Don Steenkamp, convicted for the murder of his family is taking legal steps to recover his legal fees from Steenkamp's guardian, The Star reported on Monday.
Stoffel de Jager was appointed instructing attorney by Steenkamp's guardian, Bennie Heckroodt, according to the report.
On Friday, de Jager handed a draft order regarding "monies owed" to acting Judge Mpho Mamosebo in the Northern Cape High Court.
De Jager would not disclose the outstanding amount, saying there was an agreement between him and Div Pretorius from Haarhoffs Attorneys, who appeared on behalf of Heckroodt, not to speak to the media, according to the publication.
Last year, the court found Steenkamp guilty of the murders of his father, Griekwastad farmer Deon Steenkamp, 44, mother Christel, 43, and his sister Marthella, 14.
They were shot dead on their farm Naauwhoek on April 6, 2012.
The teenager was also found guilty of raping the girl and lying to the police.
Steenkamp was sentenced to 20 years for the crimes.
