Klerksdorp - The new number plate system with advanced technology and security features for North West's more than half a million vehicles will be rolled out on July 1.
Public Safety MEC Nono Maloyi launched the project in Klerksdorp this morning.
Maloyi said that the new secured number plates would help combat false plates used to disguise vehicles used in crimes, evasion of traffic fines, and cash in transit robberies amongst others.
Changes made to the plates include a reduction in the background graphics’ intensity to improve lettering contrast and legibility, the addition of a NW Coat of Arms, and a 2D barcode.
