Bloemfontein's Rose Festival in full swing─── SABRINA SABRINA 16:37 Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Bloemfontein - People from across the country and possibly even further afield will descend on Bloemfontein this weekend to take in the splendor of the 38th annual Rose Festival.
Organiser Risna Opperman says it was initially started as a marketing ploy by the City of Bloemfontein in the 1970’s and grew into an annual rose extravaganza from there.
She says the judging of the cut rose competition at Loch Logan has already been finalized, while judges are scrutinizing entrants into the brand new florists competition this afternoon.
Opperman has also invited everyone to visit one of the fifteen open gardens across the city this weekend, which are open daily from 10am to 3pm. These range from established gardens at homes of private individuals or venues such as Liedjiesbos and Sewe Damme to developing gardens.
