Interstate Bus Lines' fare increase bemoaned

───   THANDI THANDI 05:54 Wed, 25 Jun 2014

Thandi Xaba
Bloemfontein - Interstate Bus Lines has announced a 9.5 percent increase in its fare which will take effect from July 1.

Hillary Mophete, Free State director of co-operative communication at the department of police, roads and transport, says the increase contributes to the three expenses compensated for efficient bus services.

Commuters from Thaba Nchu and Botshabelo have expressed their unhappiness about the proposed increases, which will see monthly costs for a trip to Bloemfontein go up from R480 to R580 per month.

Bloemfontein worker Rose Tsepe who travels from Bothsabelo daily, says the new amount is too much.

Mophete says the department looks at various factors, stipulated in its contract with the bus services, before proposing a price raise.
