De Aar - The inauguration of a new solar power facility outside De Aar promises to set in motion socio-economic development programmes, that will benefit communities.
The Independent Power Producer's Marion Green-Thompson says the plant will supply clean, renewable electrical energy to meet the annual needs of over 19 000 average homes throughout the country.
Green-Thompson says their 20-year plan will benefit education, job creation and tourism.
Green-Thompson says their obligation is to spend 1,1% of their turnover on social development programmes.

The Northern Cape hosts the majority of the country’s planned solar power plants, and will be the largest producer of renewable energy (green energy) in the country by 2020.
