Gender-based violence (GBV) is back in the spotlight in the North West after the murders of two women in two separate incidents.
Two young women fell victim to brutal violence at the hands of men who were since arrested by the police and now face charges of murder.
A man has been arrested by the police in Ikgageleng near Zeerust after he allegedly killed his girlfriend, Tshwanelo Seleke, in the most brutal manner.
Another alleged perpetrator in Klerksdorp is in custody after he allegedly stabbed his 25-year-old ex-girlfriend, Sylvia Meimane, in her left arm with a knife.
According to the police spokesperson, Aafje Botma, the 25-year-old victim was transported to the hospital where she was certified dead on arrival.
Following an intensive investigation, the suspect was traced and arrested. A 37-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Monday 8 November 2021, for the alleged murder of Meimane.
The accused's court appearance stems from his apprehension on Thursday afternoon, 4 November 2021. It is alleged that police were summoned to the Tshepong Hospital where the murdered victim’s uncle informed them that the victim and the suspect fought at his house in Jouberton, outside Klerksdorp on Wednesday night, 3 November 2021,” Botma added.
