A 23-year-old student from the North West University's Mafikeng campus, will in October become the youngest PhD graduate in Africa. Mark Steenbok caught up with her to chat about her record-breaking feat.
The Golden Key International Honour Society in Tucson in Arizona, recently confirmed that Musawenkosi Saurombe, a student at the North West University’s Mahikeng Campus, will become the youngest woman in Africa to receive a PhD. Musa, as she is affectionately known, recently submitted her PhD thesis in Industrial Psychology.
While studying towards a Master’s degree, her uncle showed her an article of a young Nigerian man who completed his PhD at the age of 24, which made her aspire to beat that record.
Musa is also one of the few academics to have taken part in the annual international summit of the Golden Key International Honour Society, which was recently held in the USA. At the summit she was granted the opportunity of presenting her research which gave her international recognition.
Musa says women in Africa are destined for greatness and that it is their duty as women to fulfil their purpose.
