Stadiums allowed 50% capacity | News Article

This week on the Touchdown we focus on the recent announcement by president Cyril Ramaphosa, that sport stadiums will be allowed to use 50% of their capacity for vaccinated fans and for fans that have tested negative for Covid-19.

Aaron Masemola was joined by Marina van der Walt (Marketing Manager at the Free State Cricket Union) and she explained that several livelihoods depended on having fans in the stadium.

“Ultimately our industry isn't about fans buying tickets, but about the livelihoods of our suppliers, our vendors and our sponsors”, said van der Walt.

The Itec Knights captain, Pite van Biljon, says “we’re loving the vibe with the fans in the stadium and more fans will make things so much better”.

Van Biljon also explained that stadiums allowing more fans is important from a revenue perspective and growing the love for cricket in the Free State.

“People will bring their kids to the stadium and this could possibly inspire the future of cricket in the Free State” he expanded.

Lastly, van der Walt, emphasized the challenges brought covid-19 and invited you to join you - to join in the fun at the Mangaung oval.

“To all our Itec Knights supporters come out and have a fun day in the sun, and come be a part of the action at the Mangaung oval” urged the marketing Manager at the Free State Cricket Union.

The Itec Knights take on the Dolphins at 10:00 on the 3 April at the Mangaung oval.
