The Burnley striker, Lyle Foster, has officially been ruled out for Tuesday night’s Africa Cup of Nations return leg between Congo Brazzaville and Bafana Bafana.

Foster scored a goal in the 52nd minute of South Africa’s 5-0 win during the first leg on Friday night, however, he left the field a short while later. Subsequent scans reveal that the player has a knee injury, however no surgery will be required.

The player did not travel with the team to Brazzaville but instead returned to his English club Burnley where he will undergo rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, tonight’s game between Congo and South Africa kicks off at 18:00.

The Bafana Bafana team doctor, Tshepo Molobi, confirmed that the striker sustained an injury and while it’s not as serious as initially feared the player needs rest. “Fortunately, the nature of the injury does not require surgery, said Molobi.

“However, time has to be afforded to him for proper rehabilitation and this is why he has been ruled out of the match on Tuesday.”

Tuesday night’s game between Congo Brazzaville and South Africa at the Alphonse Massamba-Debat Stadium kicks off at 18:00.
