Cufa Cup to go ahead as planned─── MORGAN PIEK 10:54 Sun, 13 Oct 2024
“The CUFA Cup Organising Committee is pleased to announce that our meeting with Marumo Gallants was a resounding success.”
“Both parties have resolved their differences, and we are excited to confirm that the tournament will proceed as planned.”
The eagerly anticipated Cufa Cup match between Marumo Gallants and Kaizer Chiefs in Bloemfontein on Sunday has been saved and will continue as planned.
On Saturday night, the Bloemfontein-based Premier Soccer League club, Marumo, threatened to pull out of the friendly match due to a contractual dispute with the organisers.
‘Had they pulled out, it would have left thousands fuming’
In a statement released by the club, they said that they could not confirm whether or not they would commit to the fixture, and had they pulled out of the contest, it would have left thousands fuming and disappointed as a sold-out crowd was once against expected.
It’s the third time that the Chiefs are playing in Bloemfontein since July and the previous two fixtures boasted with capacity crowds.
On Sunday morning, at approximately 10:30, the organisers confirmed that the dispute had been resolved and the match will go ahead as planned on Sunday.
“This afternoon, fans can look forward to an electrifying clash between Kaiser Chiefs and Marumo Gallants. We anticipate a thrilling match filled with top-tier football action, passion, and the kind of excitement that only the Cufa Cup can deliver.
‘Stadium will be buzzing’
“The stadium will be buzzing with entertainment on and off the field, making today an unforgettable experience for supporters.
“Thank you to our fans for your unwavering support, and we look forward to seeing you this afternoon for an amazing day of football and entertainment!”
Sunday’s match at the Toyota Stadium will kick off at 15:00.
