“We've got that togetherness and we proved that. We'll die for each other out there, we'll do anything to protect this manager, protect each other, keep going, keep fighting. What we've got as a group, I think, showed out there.”

The three-time champions Spain as well as England are through to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 in Germany.

On Sunday night in,Köln, Spain came from behind to beat a determined Georgia 4-1 to book their spot in the last eight.

At the Veltins-Arena it was a close one for England after scoring an extra-time goal against Slovakia to advance.

Slovakia took the lead in the 25th minute through an Ivan Schranz goal.

Harry Kane equalised in the 91st minute, while Jude Bellingham scored five minutes into extra time.

The Three Lions midfielder, Declan Rice, said it speaks of the team’s character.

“I can’t even describe that feeling - you’re representing England at the European Championships in round of 16 and it’s 95 minutes when you look up at the clock,” said Rice.

“You think ‘ we could be going home here’. But there's players saying to each other, ‘one minute to go, we still believe, we're still going to get one more chance’.

“There's that inner fight and spirit in us which a few Slovakian players before the game said that we didn't have.

“We've got that togetherness and we proved that. We'll die for each other out there, we'll do anything to protect this manager, protect each other, keep going, keep fighting. What we've got as a group, I think, showed out there.

“We're going to be a part of it and we're going to keep going, we're going to keep giving it everything.”

On Saturday, the host Germany advanced to the quarter-finals following a 4-1 win against Denmark, while Switzerland caused an upset by eliminating the then defending champions, Italy, with a 2-0 win in Berlin.

On Monday night at 18:00 France will face neighbours Belgium, and Portugal will take on Slovenia at 21:00.
