The Netherlands and Turkey are the last two teams to book their spots in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 in Germany.

Last night in Munich a 20th minute Cody Gakpo goal and second half brace by Donyell Malen saw the Netherlands beating Romania 3-0 to book their spot in the quarter-finals.

The Liverpool and Dutch forward Gakpo said this was the performance everyone had been waiting for from Oranje.

“The physiotherapist said I was going to score the first goal, that's why I ran towards him when I celebrated,” said Gakpo.

“We played a good game and showed a great reaction from the last one, and we're very pleased,” the Liverpool player added.

“I think especially after the last game we needed a reaction and I think today was a step in the right direction.

“We talked a lot about aggression and intensity and we defended like a team. Like I said, it was a good step today. We played a good game and we're very happy that we won.”

Meanwhile, a brace from the Al-Ahli Saudi centre-back Merih Demiral saw Turkey knock Austria out with a 2-1 victory in Leipzig.

The quarter-finals start on Friday night with Spain up against Germany, while Portugal will face France.
