The defending champions, Orlando Pirates, are safely through to the semi-finals of the MTN8, while they will avoid their arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the last four.

On Saturday, the season's first cup competition kicked off with the PSL champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, beating Moroka Swallows 1-0 in Atteridgeville.

The Buccaneers in their turn were ruthless with a Zakhele Lepasa hat-trick steered them to a 5-0 drubbing of the dangerous Sekhukhune United at the Orlando Stadium.

The Pirates coach, Jose Riveiro, said he is happy Lepasa and his hat-trick was a result of all the hard work he puts in.

“I’m happy for the guy. He’s a guy who's always working hard, so it’s good that football is also paying back to him,” said the Spanish tactician.

“Because he is always in the right places like today and today (Saturday) he managed to put the ball in net more times than frequent.

“So I’m so happy for him, because it’s going to be good for the team, it’s good for Zakhele.”

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs earned their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory against Cape Town City, while Stellenbosch FC beat SuperSport United 1-0.

The draw was done on Sunday evening following the Stellenbosch win over SuperSport.

Stellies will get to face the champions, Pirates, while Chiefs will take on Sundowns.

The PSL is yet to confirm the dates and venues for the semi-finals.
