Midfielder Yusuf Maart’s goal from inside his own half in the 74th minute of this weekend’s Soweto derby led the Amakhosi to a 1-0 victory over the Buccaneers.

Kaizer Chiefs took on Orlando Pirates in the 176th Soweto Derby on Saturday, the 29th of October at the FNB Stadium. This Premier Soccer League game was the most anticipated game of the weekend, if not the whole PSL season.

A massive rivalry supported by a full capacity crowd was a definite mark of excitement and the action did not disappoint. José Riviero’s team, Orlando Pirates, seemed to have the upper hand dominating much of the first half but the second half saw a turn as the Amakhosi settled in and began dominating possession.

Yusuf Maart’s goal in the 74th minute of the game from well within the Amakhosi’s side of the field is being described as a goal that will go down in history for Kaizer Chiefs. After this stunner of a goal and overall performance throughout the game there was no doubt that Maart would be named man of the match and rightfully so.

The Amakhosi have been dominating the fixtures for the past three seasons and despite the Buccaneer’s adopting a more positive approach, the Amakhosi have extended their dominance by staking their claim in this weekend’s PSL clash.

Arthur Zwane’s Glamour Boys are currently standing at 3rd on the log and just two places behind them, Orlando Pirates make their mark at 5th.

For Zwane, his first derby as coach was a massive success and as quoted by The South African, he had the following to say: “For me as well as a coach, I needed it today the most because I wanted to start on a high note and it happened and thanks to God that he gave us the three points and he also gave our boys the strength to hang in and work very hard.

The PSL action will continue this evening at 17:30 with SuperSport United up against Swallows.
