The Red Devils beat Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford for their first win over their old enemy in four years.

For Liverpool it was a third match of the league without being able to secure a win.

Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford both scored for Man United, while Mo Salah scored a consolation goal for Liverpool.

United opted to drop the five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo and the captain Harry Maguire for the derby and perhaps this could be the turning point for the club.

United boss, Erik ten Hag, said the win was a result of the right attitude.

“Manchester United stands for winning and we didn't do that it the first two games,” said the Dutch coach.

“Man United is not for excuses and we have to win. That standard we have to bring on the pitch every game. That is a way of life for us and it starts in training.

“We showed that when we have the right spirit and we act as a team we can achieve a lot.”

The win moved United up to 14th on the table will Liverpool are in 16th.

On Saturday Southampton will host Manchester United at St. Mary's, while Liverpool will face Bournemouth at Anfield.
