Masuku proves he is a classy player | News Article
Siya Masuku - Cheetahs

The Toyota Cheetahs praised the effort of the flyhalf Siya Masuku during their will over the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld in the final round of Currie Cup games before the semi-finals.

Masuku was back to his very best on Saturday as he scored an outstanding try while also landing four conversions as a penalty for 16 points in the game.

His performance played a big role in the Cheetahs securing the top-spot on the log and booking a possible home final.

In recent times the Sharks-bound pivot struggled with form and confidence after making a return to the field following an elbow injury.

This promoted the Cheetahs to field Ruan Pienaar at flyhalf in the two previous games, however, he was unavailable to play against the Bulls because of a family bereavement.

The Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that the 26-year-old backline marshal delivered.

“Siya played very well at flyhalf and there was only one mistake by him in the game,” said Fourie.

“It was with the kick-off where he kicked the ball directly into touch. The rest of the game it was pinpoint accuracy with his kicking out of hand and on goal as well.

“He made some good tackle as well and he scored his first try against the Bulls for the Cheetahs in the Currie Cup.

“We're really glad that he has found some form - we've always known that he has got it in him.

He is a quality player and he just needed some time on the field.

“I'm very satisfied with his performance.”

On Saturday at 15:00 the Cheetahs will host the Bulls at the Toyota Stadium in the semi-finals.
