The former South African schools' captain and Junior Springbok hooker, Jacques Goosen, will be hoping to revive his once promising career in Bloemfontein.

The 22-year-old joined up with the Cheetahs this week, where he is training with the Currie Cup team ahead of next week’s game against the champions, the Pumas.

The player who made his Currie Cup debut for Western Province last year is set to play against the Pumas while the main squad is in France for the EPCR Challenge Cup game against Toulon.

Goosen's style of play is similar to that of former Springbok hooker Schalk Brits and current Griquas number two Gustav du Rand.

The live-wire hooker told OFM Sport that he looks forward to the opportunity.

"The Cheetahs have welcomed me with open arms and the past week has been very good with the team, said the Old Selbornian.

"I'm very excited to get an opportunity to play again when they face the Pumas next week in the Currie Cup.

"It's going to be a good one and I'm just excited for the opportunity once again and very fortunate.

"Hopefully it's a good one!"

Goosen currently plays club rugby for Villagers RFC in Claremont, Cape Town. He is joined by Alvin Brandt, who is the twin brother of the injured Cheetahs winger, Enver Brandt. Alvin previously represented the Free State in the old Vodacom Cup.

Meanwhile, Friday’s game between the Cheetahs and Bulls at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 17:05.
