Boks braced for a scrum battle in Buenos Aires─── MORGAN PIEK 13:57 Mon, 12 Sep 2022
The Springboks are expecting a big challenge at scrum-time this weekend when they tackle Argentina in Buenos Aires in the Rugby Championship.
The Boks have long been regarded as one of the best scrummaging units in world rugby, but the Argentines pride themselves on the setpiece.
The Pumas will also be confident at home, especially after having beaten the All Blacks in New Zealand.
The Springbok loose-head prop, Ox Nché, said they will be tested in the scrum on Saturday evening.
“I think they scrum pretty well. If you look at the stats, they retain most of their ball,” said Nché.
“They have done well especially in the Championship this year. I think they are a pretty good team in terms of setpieces and they will prepare well.
“You can see how they scrummed against Australia and the All Blacks. They prepped for it and they had a plan to counter both teams’ scrums.
“They can attack very well, and they can also play a very set-piece focused game.
“But when they are allowed to play with the ball in hand, they do that. They have a very balanced game that we have to be prepared for.”
The Sharks player added that they do take confidence from the fact that their strategy set out for the Test in Sydney worked and they managed to break their 13-year winless streak against the Wallabies Down Under.
“We had a goal which was to end the drought in Australia and we were all properly aligned with that. It’s not really about not having the favourites tag, but more about being more aligned in what we want to achieve as a team and how we want to do that.”
Jacques Nienaber will be naming his team for the Test on Tuesday and kick-off on Saturday at Estadio Jose Amalfitani will be at 21:10.
