Specman doubtful for remainder of the Toyota Challenge─── MORGAN PIEK 08:14 Mon, 15 Nov 2021
The Springbok winger, Rosko Specman, won’t be available for the Toyota Cheetahs for the remainder of the Toyota Challenge Cup.
Specman limped off the park with a knee injury just a few minutes into the match on Saturday in Bloemfontein when Western Province edged the Cheetahs 31-30 right at the death.
Specman only had two games left at the Cheetahs before re-joining the Stormers in Cape Town for their URC campaign.
The Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that they will have a better understanding of Specman’s injury on Monday.
“He will definitely not be playing in the next two games.
“He was limping after the game and he will go and see a specialist, maybe on Monday.
“Then we will get his opinion, but it doesn't look good.”
On Wednesday the Cheetahs will tackle the Spanish outfit, Barcelona, in their second match of the tournament.
While the visitors aren’t expected to be in the same class as Province, the Cheetahs will target an 80-minute performance.
Fourie added that they have to finish off their opponents when the opportunity is there, unlike against Province.
“There is definitely a lot to work on, but my feeling is that we let it slip in the first half.
“We had three great opportunities to score and we didn't finish any of those while we were leading 17-6.
“We didn't put them to bed and we gave them a sniff just before half time and in the second half we gave away a lot of possession.”
Wednesday’s game between the Cheetahs and Barcelona at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 17:30.
