Bloemfontein – Shimlas flyhalf Pieter-Steyn de Wet has been called up to the Griquas Vodacom Cup team to play the Pumas this coming Friday in Kimberley.

The young flyhalf impressed during the Shimlas recent campaign in the Varsity Cup. Although being slight of build the Paarl local earned his stripes when he proved time-and-time again that he was a general in the Shimlas backline.

De wet never shied away from defence and used his well-educated boot with devastating effect though clever tactical kicking. He was particularly impressive when he was partnered with Baby Bok Kevin Luiters who unfortunately missed the majority of the Varsity Cup after twisting his ankle badly in the Shimlas opening game of the Varsity Cup.

De Wet has been called up to the Griquas team as a replacement for Francois Brummer who has been called up to the Toyota Cheetahs following Riaan Smits' hamstring injury. Smit pulled a hamstring during the Cheetahs warm-up session minutes ahead of kick-off against the Melbourne Rebels.

Despite injuries to Johan Goosen, Riaan Smit and Elgar Watts the Cheetahs have for once got adequate cover in the number jersey.

The Griquas team to play the Pumas is as follows:
15. Richard Lawson, Jannie Boshoff, PJ Vermeulen (Captain), 12. Waltie Venter, 11. Rocco Jansen, 10. Pieter-Steyn de Wet, 9. Marnus Hugo, 8. Leon Karemaker, 7. Justin Downey, 6. Marnus Schoeman, 5. Johan Adendorf, 4. Hewitt, 3. Nick Schoenert, 2. Mathew Dobson 1. Steph Roberts.

Replacements: Simon Westraadt, 17. Janro van Niekerk, 18. Brummer Badenhorst, 19. Deon Carney, 20. Jacques Coetzee, 21. Jean Stemmet, 22. Luzuko Vulindlu.
