“For the first time ever, there were no Free State teams in the semifinals, and another first for KwaZulu-Natal having two teams in the semis.”
The Fairtree Super12 Hockey Tournament has produced a new trophy winner from outside the Free State.
Previously second-ranked Rhenish Girls’ High from Stellenbosch went home Saturday with a 3-1 shootout win against St Mary’s Kloof in the final round to secure the top-ranked spot in the country.
“Rhenish become the fourth school to win the tournament since its inception nine years ago. Both Rhenish (1st) and Waterkloof (4th) had their best Super 12 to date,” said Oranje Secondary School Communications and Marketing Manager, Ruan Bruwer.
