Vettel bids farewell to Formula 1─── MORGAN PIEK 08:24 Mon, 21 Nov 2022
The four-time World Champion, Sebastian Vettel, has announced his retirement from Formula One after an illustrious career in which he established himself as one of the sport's best drivers.
The 35-year-old German great finished in the points during his last race, finishing 10th at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday.
During his illustrious career, Vettel started in 299 Formula 1 races and earned 53 wins, while he was on pole 57 times.
Following his last race, the legendary Vettel said he hoped he was able to leave a legacy.
"I think it’s a huge privilege to be in the position that we are in, and with that comes some responsibility, so I hope to pass on a little bit to the other drivers, to carry on some of the good work," said one of the greatest drivers in the history of the sport.
"It’s great to see that we have the power to inspire the fans with what we do and what we say.
"I think there are far bigger and far more important things than racing in circles, but obviously it is what we love and through that, if we can transfer some of the really important values, that’s big. So I think for that, the last two years have been great for me.
"Thank you for the support, the messages, the letters and all the love in general. I will miss that, but it’s been an absolute joy throughout my career."
Meanwhile, at this stage, Mick Schumacher, Nicolas Latifi and Daniel Riccardo are still without seats for the 2023 season. Riccardo is said to be heading back to Red Bull as a reserve driver.
