Delayed bail proceedings for three of the four men accused of being involved in the murder of Bloemfontein businessman, Louis Siemens are set to resume in the local Magistrate Court today.

The accused - businessman Stanley Bakili, Detective from the Bayswater unit, Molebatsi Mogoera and court orderly, Kagiso Chabane - appeared in courtroom 21 on Friday, November 9, a day after the fourth accused Xolisile Mbebetho plead guilty to pulling the trigger that ended Siemens’ life. He sentenced to 22 years in jail by the Free State High Court on November 8.

Legal counsel for Bakili was the first to request a postponement of the proceedings after prosecutor Johan De Nysschen revealed that Bakili - a former business associate of the slain director of Day hospital City Med - would be facing an additional conspiracy to commit murder charge, not regarding Siemens but rather Bakili’s ex-girlfriend. Mogoera’s newly appointed, legal counsel followed suit, also requesting the postponement. Chabane’s counsel, on the other hand, was ready to proceed but conceded to the request for the postponement.

The matter has long been marred by postponements and concerns have been raised regarding this. The matter was moved as a result from courtroom 20 to 21, so that the matter can be dealt with separately and does not clash with the roll for room 20. Concerns were raised over delays to bail proceedings, especially after the policemen were apprehended. Siemens was gunned down in the basement parking area of Preller Square in May this year.

Meanwhile, police have stated previously that a fifth suspect is still at large.
