Mangaung Metro is expected to announce a new board for its utility company, Centlec, soon.
This follows after a council resolution to disband the board, except for one board member, the controversial Dudu Myeni. Opposition parties lambasted the municipality when former SAA chair, Myeni, was appointed to the board.
Centlec spokesperson Lele Mamatu confirmed that Myeni is the only remaining board member. Executive Mayor Olly Mlamleli told the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) during a meeting in Parliament that it was discovered that the board never had an annual general meeting since 2014 and some members were part of the board for up to 11 years.
Mlamleli said the council took a resolution to disband the board and granted six months in which a new board should be established. The board was disbanded approximately two months ago.
