New mayor announced for Sol Plaatje municipality─── 13:08 Fri, 14 Sep 2018
The new mayor of the Sol Plaatje municipality is Patrick Mabilo. His appointment to this Northern Cape Municipality was announced Friday morning.
He replaces the embattled Mangaliso Matika, who resigned earlier this month following protest action and calls for him to step down.
ANC Provincial Secretary, Deshi Ngxanga, says Matika will officially resign as Sol Plaatje's executive mayor on 26 September and will either be employed full-time in the ANC, or sent to serve as a member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature.
Mabilo was sworn in as a member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in February after former MEC for Cogta, Alvin Botes, was deployed to parliament. Mabilo also served as the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, as well as the MEC for Nature Conservation and served in the National Assembly.
