#FSHealthCrisis: MEC addresses nurses─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 13:13 Tue, 05 Jun 2018
Free State Health MEC, Montsheng Tsiu, is currently engaging nurses from Pelonomi Hospital’s maternity ward over challenges they’ve reportedly experienced at the hospital.
This comes after the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) requested national intervention in April after midwives and staff from this maternity ward forwarded their grievances to management. These grievances include staff shortages and lack of resources amongst other issues.
Tsiu’s visit to the hospital comes a few hours ahead of Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi’s address on the state of hospitals in the country, with reference to allegations that the healthcare system in the country is on the verge of collapse.
At this stage, the provincial health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, has requested all media present at the hospital to allow the MEC to have discussions with the nurses in private, and will thereafter conduct a media briefing on the outcome of the meeting.
