Renowned North West boxer has passed away─── 06:25 Thu, 05 Apr 2018

The Mahikeng based boxer from North West, Norman “Pangaman” Sekgapane, has passed away.
Sekgapane's son, Thabo, says in a media statement his beloved father died in the age of 70 at the Chris Hani Baranwanath Hospital in Soweto, Gauteng, yesterday afternoon, after a long illness.
According to him, Sekgapane (1948-03-02) spent months in and out of hospital in Johannesburg, even though he lived in Mahikeng. Sekgapane made name for himself in boxing during the 1970s and 1980s.
Some of his memorable battles in the ring were against seasoned warriors such as Anthony “Blue Jaguar” Morodi, Peter “Black Eagle” Tshabalala and Nkosana “Happy Boy” Mgxaji. Thabo says his father was a humble and a soft-spoken man. “He was renowned for being quiet off the ring and approached his craft with dignity and made his statements with his fists.”
Sekgapane used to pack stadiums with his bouts against Antonio Cervantes, Harold Volbrecht, Bramley Whiteboy, Tsietsi Maretloane, Mzwandile Biyana and many other boxers of the highest calibre in the world.
Memorial and funeral arrangement will be announced in due course.
