While the situation in Rustenburg remains calm following a day of civil protests which saw several houses burned down, roleplayers, including taxi associations, were said to be meeting with the Rustenburg Municipal Board since 15:00.
According to a police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, police remain deployed in the area and are monitoring the situation following yesterday’s unrest in which six alleged foreign-owned houses were burned down. No arrests were made today and no injuries reported.
He told OFM News earlier there was no certainty about the reason for the demonstration, but added it is rumoured to stem from unhappiness regarding the alleged slow pace of police investigations into crime in the area - particularly drug-related crimes.
