What do #ANC presidential hopefuls bring to the table? | News Article

Political analyst from Lefthook Solutions and media consultant, Vukani Mde, says the top two ANC presidential candidates, Cyril Ramaphosa and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, both bring different attributions to the table.

Speaking on who is likely to win the ANC leadership race with OFM News, Mde criticised Dlamini-Zuma for not asserting herself and establishing her own political identity. He said she is rather seen as a Zuma ‘continuity candidate’. Mde further criticised her for allegedly not doing well in her former AU chairperson position, because he believes she saw it as a stepping stone to the presidency. He says Ramaphosa’s victory will be a more positive win for the party.

He says when it comes to Dlamini-Zuma, she has been reduced to Jacob Zuma’s wife, despite having served in various leadership positions. He says, should she win, then the ANC will have a tough time securing votes in 2019, hence this narrative about her needs to be changed coupled with who she aligns herself with.

On the other hand, Cyril Ramaphosa, is currently leading in the leadership race.

Mde further said the party needs to decide whether they want to lead the country or not, come 2019, and must thus elect leaders who will restore its integrity.

He added that politics in the country are dynamic as the ANC is currently not leading or governing in four major metropolitan areas and that nobody would have imagined that a decade ago.

Credentials and nomination processes are completed and the counting of votes is still underway at Nasrec.
