Nelson Mandela Foundation disappointed by PP report─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:37 Tue, 05 Dec 2017
The Nelson Mandela Foundation says it is extremely shocked by the alleged misappropriation of funds by the Eastern Cape government relating to the funeral costs of late president Nelson Mandela in 2013.
This, after Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, delivered her report on the misappropriation of funds amounting to at least R300 million from the provincial government yesterday.
Mkhwebane found evidence to suggest that procurement processes followed in the appointment of service providers for the funeral were not in accordance with a system that was fair, equitable, transparent, cost-effective and competitive. It is alleged that funds allocated for the provision of running water, electricity, sanitation, ablution facilities and the refurbishment of schools and hospitals were wasted under the cover of late president Nelson Mandela's funeral. Chief Executive Officer of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Sello Hatang, told OFM News they are hopeful this matter will receive the necessary attention and that law enforcers will hold those involved accountable.
He urges members of the public to report anything that seems illegal that is being done in Madiba’s name.
