Bloemfontein - Despite recent rainfalls, water restrictions are still in force as water supply in the Free State remains critically low.
According to the Department of Water and Sanitation’s spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau, dam levels continue to drop week on week.
Ratau says we have been experiencing high temperatures of late which obviously have led to higher evaporation rates.
He also stressed that not all rain that falls within catchment areas feed a particular dam.
"We have been experiencing the drought, and must remember we are not receiving as much rainfall as before, and therefore we need to reduce our consumption of water,” says Ratau.
Ratau says those who abuse the consumption of water, will face a hefty fine.
