The department’s spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says one patient is still receiving treatment in the intensive care unit and experiencing episodes of confusion. “We are happy that one of the eight patients has been released and with the remaining seven’s steady progress. The department remains optimistic that all the patients will make a full recovery,” says Mvambi.

He says all the bodies have now been positively identified. We are pleased that the last body of the 53-year-old Ntsietso Josefine Mokutoane has since been positively identified and a post-mortem has been conducted on the body. The next of kin have been informed to proceed with funeral arrangements,” says Mvambi.

“It pleases us that all the bodies have been positively identified. At times we would go for months with bodies lying in the government mortuary. We end up having to hand the bodies over to the municipality, which is unpleasant. We want to be sure that we give people dignified send-offs from cradle to grave. When people are dead they still need to be respected and be given a decent and befitting funeral,” says Mvambi.

Mvambi again appealed to the families of Khahane Shaduck and Maletesane Masunyane to come forward to claim their bodies at the government mortuary.
