Detour at NC sinkhole opens─── MARK STEENBOK 16:07 Mon, 10 Apr 2017
Kimberley - The Northern Cape Department of Roads and Public works have completed a temporary gravel bypass road at the massive sinkhole located on the R31 between Kuruman and Daniëlskuil.
This was announced by MEC Mxolisi Sokatsha during a press briefing in Kimberley. He says road users will be able to use the bypass for the next eight months while rehabilitation at the sinkhole continues. Sokatsha added that the temporary bypass road would provide economic relief for especially small businesses. Sokatsha says the closure of the road between Daniëlskuil and Kuruman was essential as this ensured that no fatalities or any injuries were reported. The sinkhole formed in January after heavy rains in the area.
