Opposition members to boycott Mangaung council meeting | News Article

Bloemfontein - Democratic Alliance councillors in the Mangaung Metro have said they will not attend tomorrow's special council meeting.

This follows a walk out staged by opposition members during an ordinary council meeting yesterday.

DA councillor, David Masoeu, says their members are extremely unhappy with the way in which meetings are being held.

He told OFM News they were not given enough time to go through applications for the city manager position.

“Unfortunately ANC members had an opportunity to go through these applications at an earlier available opportunity. The rest of the councillors were only given 20 minutes and looking at the number of applications that we were supposed to go through to check authenticity of qualifications and so on we couldn’t do it in 20 minutes,” he said.

He said their request for more time from the Council Speaker, Mxolisi Siyonzana, was ignored. Masoeu said they will therefore not partake in the special council sitting tomorrow. This is the second consecutive walkout the opposition has staged during a council meeting.

Meanwhile, Tankiso Mea, was announced as the new Bloemfontein City Manager on Wednesday.
