Themba Mosia recommended for Jansen’s replacement─── REFILWE GAESWE 11:06 Thu, 15 Sep 2016
Bloemfontein - Themba Mosia has been recommended by the Higher Education Transformation Network (HETN) to replace Jonathan Jansen as Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Free State (UFS).
The network’s national spokesperson, Hendrick Makaneta, says they believe Mosia will bring about the necessary change at the institution. According to Makaneta, Mosia will collaborate with other role-players to prioritise poor students in his day to day work.
Makaneta alleged that there was no proper leadership at UFS, as Jansen failed black students and staff by focusing his energy on manufacturing fake race relations at the expense of the fight against racism and abuse of human rights.
“Jansen has failed dismally to transform the UFS into a progressive institution of higher learning. We believe that given the track record of Mosia, particularly when he used to work at Tukkies as well as the Tshwane University of Technology and the former Medunsa, the manner in which he managed to transform those institutions, we believe that he can do more to bring about the necessary change at the UFS,” Makaneta adds.
Makaneta believes that the time has come to transform UFS into an influential and advanced institution that will serve the broader interests of both South Africans and foreign nationals from all walks of life irrespective of their race, gender or social standing in society.
Mosia has been shortlisted for the position - the other two candidates are Francis Petersen and Lis Lange.
