Contingency plans in place during fuel strike─── MARK STEENBOK 08:51 Sat, 30 Jul 2016
Bloemfontein - A spokesperson for one of the country’s major petroleum companies says operations are continuing as normal in the Northern Cape, Free State and North West.
About 15 000 refinery and depot workers went on strike Thursday morning after wage talks with the National Petroleum Employers Association broke down.
They are demanding a salary increase of 9%.
Sasol's Alex Anderson says contingency plans have been put in place to ensure there is minimum disruption and also to ensure the safety of workers and contractors.
He says the strike has had no impact on operations in the country, except for Pretoria. “A number of forecourts in Pretoria have been affected. We are working to ensure that they are filled up as soon as possible. We have supply channels in place to ensure that we move stockers as quickly as possible,” says Anderson.
