Dark City residents in court after public violence─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 12:31 Fri, 03 Jun 2016

Bloemfontein - Eight people, including two women, are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court today in connection with public violence after they were allegedly involved in riots at Dark City in Bochabela this week.
Police spokesperson, Ikobeng Hlubi, says the first arrests were made on Tuesday evening when disgruntled community members blocked roads with stones, refuse and burning tyres. She says following police investigations more suspects were arrested on Wednesday.
This follows Dark City ANC residents obstructing part of Maphisa Road after the announcement of their new councillor candidate.
This led to a division within the party at Ward 3, where most residents are against the new candidate, Khosi Mogapi, preferring Pekenene Machachamisa. Residents claim Mogapi’s selection is based on nepotism.
Mogapi, who might be the new councillor of Ward 3 (comprising parts of Dark City, Silver City, Bochabela and Rocklands, among others), is the daughter of Xolo Pongolo, the ward’s current councillor who is also a Mayoral Committee Member of the Mangaung Metro.
