Vryburg - The Huhudi township in Vryburg, North West, was calm late last night following public violence that erupted on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says community members tried to set the local library alight last night, but little damage was caused because police intervened. He says a petrol bomb was thrown through a window, but before the fire could spread the fire brigade had it under control. Mokgwabone says only a carpet was burned. He says no arrests have been made and no injuries were reported over the past two days.

A truck belonging to the Naledi Municipality and a private company's bakkie were previously set alight. Various streets in the township have also been barricaded. Attempts to barricade the N18 were, however, prevented by police.

Mokgwabone says the unrest is apparently election-related. Community members are dissatisfied with nominated councillors.
