Two drown in Vaal River in Vereeniging─── 07:17 Sun, 22 May 2016
Vereeniging - Two men, both in their 20s, drowned in the Vaal River in Vereeniging on Saturday afternoon, Gauteng paramedics said.
ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring, said paramedics were called to the scene by the local authorities.
“Upon arrival, ER24 [paramedics] were ushered down to the bank where they found the two bodies lying on the banks. Several church members had crowded around the scene,” he said.
Paramedics assessed both men and found no signs of life. It was apparent that the men had been dead for some time. Both men were declared dead on the scene.
It was understood that both men were pulled from the water by the SA Police Service search and rescue team after the men were reported missing, Meiring said.
