Learners from Bartimea School sent home after violent protests─── REFILWE GAESWE 16:20 Mon, 14 Mar 2016
Thaba Nchu - Learners from the Bartimea School for the blind and deaf in Thaba Nchu were transported home by the school this morning.
Learners come from North West, Northern Cape, from across the Free State and as far as Lesotho.
This follows the temporary closure of the school by departmental officials on Saturday. Learners have been protesting at the school since last Monday.
This morning, school security turned away some parents who wanted to pick up their children. At present, no one is allowed to enter the school premises.
Hundreds of Bartimea learners have listed their grievances, alleging mismanagement by certain members of the school leadership and demanding a change of management.
The department of education says closing the school is an attempt to avoid any more violent outbursts following the latest incident where an administration building was torched.
