Tributes to the late Albert Finney have flooded social media following the announcement that the acclaimed British star of stage and screen yesterday died at the age of 82.
Variety reports that James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson said they were “heartbroken” at the loss of the actor, whose final screen appearance came as gamekeeper Kincade in 2012’s “Skyfall.”
“Westworld” star, and fellow Bond franchise alumnus, Jeffrey Wright, called Finney “supreme” and “one of the absolute greatest of all time.”
London’s renowned Old Vic Theatre, where Finney frequently appeared in plays, including William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, said the actor’s performances stood apart “as some of the greatest in their 200 year history”.
A family spokesperson says Finney, who received four best actor Oscar nominations and won three Golden Globes, "passed away peacefully after a short illness with those closest to him by his side".
