World Pharmacists Day – Strengthening health systems in South Africa─── 08:11 Mon, 25 Sep 2023
Mid-Morning Magic’s Yolanda Maartens speaks to Dr Martlie Mocke-Richter from the Free State branch of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa about supporting communities in the South African context.
In 2009 the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) officially designated the 25th of September of each year as World Pharmacists Day. This day was adopted to raise awareness of the role of the pharmacist in healthcare and to further this exact role through increased community involvement of pharmacists on national and local levels. As a proud and active FIP member organisation, the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA) is pleased to participate in World Pharmacists Day and further the shared goal of increased pharmacists' involvement in the betterment of patient health and their recognition for such services.
This year's World Pharmacy Day theme is: “Pharmacy strengthening health systems” - how do pharmacies support the health care system in the South African context?
How can pharmacies do more in their communities to support this goal?
How does a pharmacist help the community get access to a reliable supply of medication?
What is the importance of a reliable supply?
What is the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa’s vision for the future of pharmacists in SA?
How can the community get involved in your initiatives?
The objectives of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA):
To promote the professional, educational and economic interests of the members of the Society and of the pharmaceutical profession;
To encourage professional integrity and improve standards of professional conduct of the members of the Society;
To promote and maintain the image of the pharmacy;
To uphold and assist in the promotion and maintenance of the health of the people of South Africa through the provision of a safe dependable pharmaceutical service and
In recognising the diversity of the population of South Africa, to promote the representation of all sectors of the South African community in its membership
The FIP World Pharmacists Day campaign is an opportunity for pharmacy to celebrate its achievements in supporting societies, but also to make its value and further potential in improving health known.
