It was a fairy-tale ending to the season for Michael Hollick as he clinched the Sunshine Tour’s season Tour Championship at the Blair Athol Golf and Equestrian Estate on Sunday.

Hollick carded a final-round eight-under-par 64, securing a one-stroke victory over George Coetzee and Jacques Kruyswijk with a total score of 19-under-par.

At the season-opening Zimbabwe Open in Harare, Hollick also claimed victory, setting the tone for a successful year.

Reflecting on his triumph to close out the Sunshine Tour season, Hollick said it was all about believing in himself.

“After playing part-time over the past two years while coaching, I’ve really found my form over the last three or four months. There’s definitely been progress,” said Hollick.

“Sometimes, you’ve just got to back yourself. I think that’s exactly what happened. It’s been an absolutely special year.”

Meanwhile, former South African Open champion Daniel van Tonder has finally claimed the Sunshine Tour’s Order of Merit title for the 2024/25 season.

The 34-year-old had come close to clinching the coveted title twice before, but after another remarkably consistent season, he ends the campaign as the tour’s top golfer.

Over the past season, Van Tonder recorded no fewer than 17 top-10 finishes, secured four titles, and finished runner-up on four occasions. His impressive performance included a seventh-place finish this past weekend, where he had been in contention for a fifth title after the opening rounds.

Van Tonder described winning the Order of Merit as a huge relief, finally getting the monkey off his back. “This means a lot to me, especially after twice finishing second on the Order of Merit. To finally win it is incredibly special,” he said.

“There are some fantastic tournaments to look forward to, and I’m thrilled to finally be playing in the Nedbank Golf Challenge.”

Meanwhile, Altin van der Merwe was named the Sunshine Tour’s Rookie of the Year.
