“I was five years old when I first came and watched the Nedbank Golf Challenge with my family. It was always a dream for me to play in the Nedbank Golf Challenge.”

The 2024 Nedbank Golf Challenge that is set to take place at the Gary Player Country Club at Sun City is set for a major boost.

The “Africa’s Major” organisers confirmed this morning that the two soon-to-be Olympians, Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Erik van Rooyen, will be teeing it up this year. The pair will represent South Africa in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and are the first South Africans confirmed in the field for this year’s event.

Bezuidenhout, South Africa’s leading golfer, said the Million Dollar is a very special tournament on a personal level. “I was five years old when I first came and watched the Nedbank Golf Challenge with my family.”

“I watched the practice rounds, the players at the short game area, on the golf course – everything. It was always a dream for me to play in the Nedbank Golf Challenge. There are some very good names on the trophy. To be able to have a chance to put my name on there is always a very special opportunity.”

‘Being able to play in his homeland is also special’

Van Rooyen, who mostly plays on the PGA Tour said being able to play in his fatherland is also special. “It’s always a privilege to be able to compete in the Nedbank Golf Challenge in front of my home fans and in a tournament that has such a proud history and which means so much to us as South African golfers.”

The 2024 Nedbank Golf Challenge will be played from 5 to 8 December.
