The legendary Afrikaans singer, songwriter and guitarist, Anton Goosen from Gansbaai in the Western Cape, has been honoured by Sony Music South Africa and Select Music for his exceptional contribution to Afrikaans music over the past 40 years.

The 73-year-old Goosen, also referred to as the country’s “Liedjieboer” and “Boy From the Suburbs”, has been crowned by the organisers of the annual “Krone” (crowns) concert series in Cape Town.

During the weekend’s packed shows at the GrandWest Arena, Goosen was brought on stage by singer Elizma Theron and presented with a special striking red guitar by singer Nicholis Louw, that was autographed by the over 20 South African singers who took part in the sixth edition of the annual sing-along jôl.

The group then paid homage to the Afrikaans folk-rocker with a medley of his favourite songs.

Goosen has over the past four decades received numerous prizes, including Sarie music trophies, SAMA awards, as well as ATKV and F.A.K accolades.
