South Africa will face the hosts, Sri Lanka, as well as India in a series that serves largely as preparation for the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

Former Free State batting all-rounder Anneke Bosch has been ruled out of the tour due to illness. She will be replaced by Lara Goodall, who was initially left out of the touring squad.

The Western Province batter brings valuable experience to the side, although she does not offer a bowling option – although Bosch hasn’t bowled for South Africa in recent outings either.

Meanwhile, Free State all-rounder Miané Smit, who is poised to make her senior national debut during the tour, told OFM Sport she’s thrilled at the opportunity to finally represent her country.

“I’m really excited to hopefully make my debut – I can’t wait, and I’m just a bit nervous,” said Smit.

“I think it’s normal to be nervous, but I’m looking forward to being out on the field with the ladies, wearing the badge on my chest and representing my country. I’m really grateful for the opportunity and I just want to give it my all out on the field.”

The Proteas Women will depart for the subcontinent on Tuesday.

They’ll open their campaign against India on Tuesday, 29 April, at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colomo, with the first ball set to be bowled at 6:30.
